Volkswagen continues to bring the latest automotive technology to customers in Singapore, with seven car models now available with the latest generation Park Assist system. Starting this weekend and for a limited time, customers who buy these cars will get Park Assist at no extra cost.

The car models are the Golf Sport, Golf Cabriolet, Touran Sport, Tiguan Sport, Passat, CC and Sharan.

In contrast to first-generation systems which only supported parallel
parking, the latest Park Assist also assists in perpendicular parking, i.e. reverse parking into a space. What’s more, it works even in very tight spots – the parallel parking space, for instance, only needs to be 80 cm longer than the car itself.

The system is activated at speeds of up to 40 km/h by pressing a button on the centre console. Park Assist detects a sufficiently large parking space using its ultrasonic sensors, and then assisted parking can begin.

The driver engages reverse gear and then only needs to accelerate and brake: Park Assist handles the steering. If necessary, the parking manoeuvre is completed with one or more directional changes.

Another useful feature of Park Assist is the ability to steer the car out of extremely tight parallel parking spaces with gaps of only 25 cm to the front and rear. Again, the driver simply needs to engage the gears while the system automatically handles all the steering.
