With five fantastic cars to choose from in this category, it was hard for the judges as well as the readers’ votes to see eye to eye on this one. The Lexus CT200h might be Singapore’s best selling hybrid car of 2011 but in this esteemed company, it just falls short. The Honda CR-Z had been one of the most long awaited cars in recent years and it was finally introduced officially late in the year despite being available as a grey import for some time now. It was only included late into the voting process and hence should have garnered more support if it had been launched earlier. The diesel powered Golf GTD was the judges’ choice but ultimately came second to the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid thanks to the strong support for the latter in the readers’ polls. A big hybrid saloon Porsche with 380bhp, Porsche handling and 7.1 litres per 100km fuel economy is just too much to resist for most and hence the Panamera S Hybrid is oneshift’s green car of the year.
