VEP fee into M'sia Proposed to Rise to RM20

A proposal is in the works by the Malaysian Transport Ministry to raise the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fee into Malaysia to RM20. This follows a recent five-fold hike in the VEP fees from RM2.60 to RM16.50 on 1st August this year by the Malaysian authorities.

The VEP fee is levied on foreign-registered cars entering Malaysia from Singapore, and is payable at both the Woodlands Causeway and the Second Link.

On Saturday, Malaysian daily New Straits Times reported that Malaysian Deputy Transport Minister, Abdul Aziz Kaprawi, and his plans to increase the charge to RM20 (S$7.55), which he hopes to introduced from the middle of next year.

Also considered is the implantation of charging the VEP fee on cars entering from Thailand and Brunei too.

After Malaysia raised its VEP in August, Singapore raised its toll charges at the Woodlands Causeway to $2.70 when leaving Singapore, and $3.80 when leaving, up from the $1.20 payable only when departing Singapore. This toll applies to all cars entering and leaving Singapore.
