UK: Jaguar Made Its Marque at The 2013 Goodwood Revival

This past weekend, Jaguar had a major presence at the sold-out 2013 Goodwood Revival, with more than 30 historic Jaguar and Jaguar-powered race cars competing wheel-to-wheel at the unspoiled Goodwood Motor Circuit, including racing C-types, D-types, E-types and Mark II saloons. Jaguar C-types led the charge in challenging conditions in Friday evening's wet Freddie March Memorial Trophy race into the dark, with examples of the model taking all three places at the podium and Alex Buncombe and John Young taking a convincing victory overall in Jaguar Heritage Racing's ex-Fangio C-type.

In an exciting Sussex Trophy race, ex-BTCC and Le Mans star Anthony Reid took the chequered flag in a ‘long nose’ Jaguar D-type. Reid also took a hard-fought second place in the prestigious Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race in a 1963 Lister-Jaguar Coupe, shared with motoring journalist Chris Harris.

The popular St Mary’s Trophy for 1960s saloon cars had a special poignancy with the race dedicated to the memory of the great driver, racing team manager and renowned Guildford Jaguar dealer John Coombs. Coombs achieved fame with his racing Jaguar Mark II saloons, with the distinctive registration plates BUY 1 and BUY 2, as often driven by such motor racing greats as Graham Hill.

Away from the excitement of the on-track racing, historic Jaguar models were to be seen throughout the Goodwood site, from S-type police cars keeping mods and rockers in check, to XK120 and Mark IIs being used as race car support vehicles.

Examples of the current Jaguar model range - clearly displaying the brand’s lineage, contrasted older Jaguar models with the very latest F-TYPE - proved to be very popular on Jaguar’s exhibition stand inside the nostalgic Earls Court Motor Show. The famous British model David Gandy premiered his new short film, Escapism, on the Jaguar stand, featuring him driving some of the most famous sports cars ever produced, and celebrating the latest addition to Jaguar’s iconic sporting bloodline, the new F-TYPE convertible.
