We reckon that this launch by Toyota could not arrive at a more timely manner, with the recent announcement of the reopening of land borders between Singapore and Malaysia from 1 April onwards. Hopefully this move can serve as a catalyst for us drivers to rediscover our sense of adventure off the beaten path!

Toyota claims that the RAV4 is the quintessential crossover SUV, having created an entirely new type of passenger vehicle category with its initial debut in 1994. Over 10 million units have been sold globally till date.

Engineered to tackle urban and outdoor adventures, the new RAV4 is built on Toyota’s TNGA platform that is shared with other models including the latest-generation Camry and Altis. Singapore will be receiving a version with a self-charging hybrid, with electric motors mated to a 4-cylinder 2.5-litre engine, aided by a CVT gearbox. Power output stands at 215bhp, with a 0-100km/h sprint achieved in 8.1 seconds. Fuel consumption clocks in at 21.2km/l - highly respectable for a vehicle that can fit 542 litres worth of groceries in the boot.

18-inch aluminum rims will come as standard, along with LED headlamps with DRL. In the cabin, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available on a 9-inch touch screen multimedia system, along with a wireless charger and a 6-speaker sound system. Safety features as part of Toyota Safety Sense include Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High-Beam (AHB).
