Timeless Is A Number - The All New Porsche 911
Porsche launches its 8th generation 911 at Suntec Convention Centre, surrounded by past generation 911s, and with a history which spans more than 55 years. Francis Lee, Managing Director of Stuttgart Auto, said, “The 911 has captured the imagination of car en- thusiasts of all ages and generations since its debut more than 55 years ago, and we believe it will continue to wow audiences in Singapore. We are excited to build on the success of the 911 from the past and present, and into the future.“
Henrik Dreier, General Manager - Singapore, Porsche Asia Pacific, said, “The eighth generation 911 is a timeless machine that has upped the game with a suite of new technological innovations for better handling, performance, comfort and safety, such as the world’s first Wet Mode. We are happy that our customers in Singapore are now able to experience the new 911 and its capabilities first hand.“
The new 911’s 3.0 flat six turbocharged engine has been worked on, delivering more power. With 450hp in the 911 Carrera S and 4S models. This marks a 30hp increase from the previous car. Power is delivered by-way of an 8-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission.
0-100Km/h on the 911 Carrera S takes 3.5 seconds (with Sport Chrono Package) and achieves a top speed of 308 km/h, while Carrera 4S does 100km/h in 3.4 seconds (with Sport Chrono Package) and achieves top speed at 306km/h.
While keeping with its signature Porsche design DNA, the exterior design is new, with wider wheel housings over the 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels. While the rear is the same width across all models, Porsche has widened the front body by 45mm. A new trick in the hat is the electrical pop-out door handles, which are flush integrated into the body. As a nod to earlier generations of 911 cars, the bonnet features a more pronounced recess. As with current generation Porsche vehicles, the tail lights have a seamless light bar integrated into it.
On the inside, the 911 boasts its new Porsche Advanced Cockpit, which is characterised by the clear and straight lines of the dashboard with recessed instruments. In keeping with tradition, Porsche has retained its analogue rev-counter, while there are now two frameless displays that supply information to the driver. A larger Porsche Communication Centre (PCM) at 10.9 inches wide, makes it easier for drivers to view information, and has five tabs below the screen for direct access to important vehicle functions.
As a world first, the 911 is now equipped with “Wet Mode”, which detects water on the road, preconditions the control systems accordingly and warns the driver, allowing the car to be programmed to emphasise on safety. The warning and brake assist system is also fitted as standard and detects the risk of collisions to initiate emergency braking if necessary. For Singapore, electric folding mirrors, reverse camera and Porsche Entry & Drive are fitted as standard.
