The New Volkswagen Polo Fresher than Minty Fresh

The New Volkswagen Polo Fresher than Minty Fresh

Singapore – 23 October 2018. In collaboration with local fashion designer Amos Ananda, Volkswagen launches the new Polo. The new Volkswagen Polo is bigger... in-fact it is the largest Polo ever. With a design brief which calls for a more powerful, sporty, fresher and more charismatic appearance; the new car comes across as more contemporary and progressive. Its new styling clearly reflects Volkswagen’s current design language which is also seen on its other recent models. The Polo’s front end is more dominant than the car it replaces. New LED headlights which also include LED daytime running lights, together with a new grille, form the new face of the Polo, which extends across the entire width of the vehicle.

The new car also features more angular creases in its sheet metal on the side of the car. An arrow-shaped double line, known as the tornado line is a new design feature, which adds strength to the Polo’s shoulder line, visually lowering the car’s centre of gravity. Added contouring to the C-pillar makes the car appear to “lunge” forward, adding a further layer of dynamism to the car’s design.

The Polo has grown in length, with an 81mm increase, to 4,053mm and its wheelbase has also increased to 2,551mm. Front and rear overhangs have also been decreased, delivering a more powerful stance.

Built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, the new car is also more rigid, with improved body stiffness and very good crash properties.

Under the hood, the Polo is powered by Volkswagen’s proven 1.0 three-cylinder turbocharged engine, good for 115ps and 200nm of torque. Mated to a 7-speed quick-shifting DSG transmission, the Polo hits 100km/h in 9.5 seconds. Fuel consumption is a lab-tested 4.9L/100km.

On the inside, the increase in size ensures that ingress and egress has also been optimised, especially for passengers at the rear. Cargo room has also been improved on, with a 25% increase in boot space, bringing up the capacity to 351 litres.

Another visual treat is the Active Info Display, where the instrument binnacle has been replaced by a 10.26-inch colour display. The polo is the first Volkswagen and first Group model to receive the second generation version of this display, which offers improved graphics, higher pixel density, greater brightness and contrast. The dash is also equipped as standard, their Composition Media infotainment system; offering an 8-inch glass screen and features eight soft-touch function buttons for ease of use and tactile feel and two rotary/push-button controls.

Connectivity to the car through Apple and Android smart devices is standard via app connect.

For those who love a good sound system, the Polo Beats model is equipped with Dr. Dre’s ‘Beats’ audio system as standard, featuring an 8-channel amplifier, digital sound processor, subwoofer and six speakers with a 300-watt output. To define the Polo Beats model, the car gets a beats audio logo on the B-pillars and on the front seats. The Polo Beats also gets a large panoramic sunroof.

Other goodies like the Park Assist system on the Polo Beats, which depends on ultrasonic sensors to automatically guide the car into a parallel or perpendicular lot, makes parking the car a breeze.

The new Volkswagen Polo is available now at our local Volkswagen dealership.
