The New Audi A4 - Added Sportiness And Modernity
The Audi A4 is the first car to be presented in Audi’s inaugural virtual car launch in Singapore. The latest iteration of their midsize offering confidently wears the German marque’s new design language, helping it to look more dynamic and sophisticated than ever before.
On the outside, the car is definitely more striking. It has swage lines that are more defined and distinctive than ever, creating strong contours above the wheels. Other design details help to pull the visual center of gravity downwards. Styling on the roof, sills and door mirrors, as well as touches towards the rear of the vehicle (continuous chrome strip connecting the lights, trapezoidal tailpipe trims) really makes the A4 stand out from its competition.
The front fascia is dominated by the familiar Audi grille, but with a few key revisions. It now has a singleframe grille, with broader and flatter, sculpted cross bars. Sticking to the front, all variants will come with LED headlights. Matrix LED technology is available as an option. The system will have fully automated high-beam, adjusting its output dynamically for optimal brightness without blinding other road users. Dynamic indicators make an appearance fron and rear too.
Climb in, and you’ll find seats with power adjustments as standard. If you so wish, sportier seats are available as optional extras. The three-spoke steering wheel is equipped with multifunction buttons as well as shift paddles. A flat-bottomed unit can also be optioned.
The new MMI system promises a user experience similar to a smartphone. The 10.1 inch display has acoustic feedback, a natural-language voice control, online traffic and weather updates, as well as remote monitoring through the free myAudi app.
It even has a self-learning navigation system, which makes suggestions to the driver based on routes driven previously, incorporating experience regarding time of day and traffic density. The route is calculated online on servers in the backend, using real-time data for the overall traffic situation.
The top-of-the-line all-digital Audi virtual cockpit plus is standard for Singapore. It has the same graphical interface as the MMI large touchscreen and offers a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 720 pixels on the screen with its 12.3-inch diagonal. The driver can switch between three screens – the classic view, the sport mode and the dynamic mode.
For propulsion, you have a choice of two engines. Both are 2.0 TFSI units, but with differing outputs (150 bhp and 190 bhp) at launch. They both feature a mild hybrid system that reduces fuel consumption by up to 0.3 liters per 100 kilometers whilst providing a small power boost. A third variant with 249hp and quattro drivetrain will be added to the portfolio later down the line.
Each motor will have transmissions tailored for its specific application. The S tronic has shorter raios lower down, but taller ratios in the upper gears to improve fuel economy.
The seven-speed S tronic has two multiplate clutches, which are laid out to reduce drag torque. When combined with the effects of the MHEV system, it boasts some impressive fuel saving figures.
The quattro drivetrain operates in conjunction with wheel-selective torque control. On spirited drives, it perfects the handling by very gently braking the wheels on the inside of the curve, for extra turn-in traction.
The Audi A4 models are now available at Audi Centre Singapore with a starting recommended retail price of $182,540 inclusive of COE and VES.
