Step On The Wild Side With Ford’s New Diesel-Powered Ranger Raptor

Singapore market will not receive turbo V6 Ranger Raptor (yet), but a Raptor with 500Nm of diesel grunt should still be properly thrilling.

A performance truck for the local market sounds like the last thing we’d ever need, but that’s precisely why we find this next-gen diesel-spec Ranger Raptor intriguing. It’s not for everyone, sure, but it wasn’t set out to please the masses - it’s the anti-hero we never knew we needed, deployed in an environment swarmed with electrified offerings. It’s yours now, for S$195,888 excluding COE.

So what is a next-gen Ranger Raptor? It’s a robust and advanced pickup truck designed for versatile terrain control, and it comes with powerful driver-assisted technologies for off-road adventures. The vehicle specced for the local market is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel Bi-Turbo engine, offering a blend of power and flexibility (and dare we say efficiency at least during long haul cruises).

Performance figures are far from docile - 206bhp at 3,750rpm and 500Nm of torque at 1,750-2,000rpm. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, it’s tuned to deliver smooth acceleration and overtaking capability.

Aside from its off-road capabilities, the Ranger Raptor offers a comfortable driving experience on tarmac. Its responsive handling and suspension provide precise control for everyday driving - even for a truck!

Equipped with advanced features like the 2.5-inch FOX shock absorbers with Internal Bypass technology, the vehicle excels in off-roading, aided by an electronic four-wheel drive system, two-speed transfer case and rear locking differentials. Selectable drive modes, including the 'Baja' mode for high-speed off-roading, adapt the vehicle's systems to different road conditions.

The Raptor's durable chassis is specially designed for off-road endurance. From reinforced load boxes to strategic spare wheel placement, every aspect is crafted for resilience. Underbody protection is provided by a 2.3mm-thick steel bash plate, shields and transfer case protection.

For recovery options, twin tow hooks and balance straps are available. The exterior boasts flared wheel arches, distinctive headlights, bold grille lettering, and a separated bumper. Matrix LED headlights offer improved visibility and safety.

Inside, the Ranger Raptor features sports seats, a Code Orange accented instrument panel and a 12.4-inch digital cluster with a 12-inch touchscreen. Ford's connectivity system supports Apple and Android wireless smartphone connections and Wireless Charging.

Safety is enhanced with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering, and a 360-degree camera. These features aid in maintaining a safe driving distance, staying in the lane, parking, and tackling challenging off-road environments.

Not keen on the EV rat race? This could be the perfect mode of transport to front the opposition party.
