Stelvio Unwrapped - Alfa Romeo Launches its First SUV

Alfa Romeo’s first SUV, the Stelvio gets unveiled in Singapore. With a larger than life presence, new SUV is named after the Stelvio Pass, Italy’s highest mountain pass which runs over 20km, with more that 75 hairpin bends; and simply put by many, as one of the best driving roads… in the world. Like the Giulia sedan which it is based on, the new Stelvio is built at the Cassino plant in Italy, where the new generation of Alfa Romeos will be manufactured. Featuring the same ingredients which makes the Giulia such a great drive, and adapted specially for the Stelvio, the new SUV is truly built to be a driver’s car.

The Stelvio features Alfa Romeo’s innovative Q4 All-Wheel-Drive System, which guarantees excellent performance, traction and safety. Just like the Giulia, with its engine mounted further back in the engine bay, and transmission mounted at the rear, complete this time, with a return shaft to bring power back to the front wheels, the new Stelvio offers drivers a balanced ride.

Their new SUV also utilises an exclusive AlfaLink rear suspension, designed with vertical rods which enhances performance by keeping the Stelvio’s tyres firmly planted on the road. Practicality is also high on their design brief, with the Stelvio boasting a 525 litre boot.

Singapore will get the ‘Super’ model, which features a 2.0 turbocharged 200hp engine, with drive to the wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission, good for a 7.2 second century sprint. Also included in this trim is mobile connectivity through Apply CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features like rear cross traffic alert, which makes backing the car out onto a road safer, autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control also come as standard.

Buyers can also expect the higher-powered Veloce and mental Quadrifoglio, the latter equipped with a 2.9 litre twin-turbocharged V6 good for 510hp to reach our shores soon.

The price estimate, complete with its VES C2 surcharge of $20,000 will be in the avenue of $240,000, once the car has cleared “homologation”.

Stay tuned for our test drive!
