It seemed like yesterday since the launch of the 2 Series family. Well, its variety could skew our perspective - for starters, there’s a Gran Coupe (fresh off the oven, by the way), a “mid-tier” 220i and more exciting M240i (which we will handle here) and the fire-breathing M2, which can be optioned with a manual. What we’re looking at here are 2 variants - 220i Coupé and M240i xDrive Coupé. These will replace their predecessors launched in March 2022. And we haven’t even touched on the Active Tourer

Give me the numbers

The 220i’s turbo 2.0-litre 4 pot pushes 184hp and 330Nm, with 0 to 100km/h dispatched in 7.5 seconds. The more potent M240i xDrive Coupé does it significantly quicker at 4.3 seconds, thanks to a 3.0-litre turbo straight 6 engine rated at 374hp and 500Nm.

Standard M Sport package

With the M Sport Package now standard, the compact two-door emphasises its dynamic character (for the 220i) through larger front air intakes, bold side skirts and a rear apron with vertical reflectors and a diffuser-like insert.

The M240i xDrive Coupé has its own version of the M specific design features. You’ll be getting high-gloss black inserts in the side air intakes, black spoiler lip on the front, a model-specific rear spoiler and trapezoidal tailpipes. The exterior mirror caps are now high-gloss black and the M high-gloss Shadow Line is standard equipment.

Fire Red metallic paint!

It’s available in Alpine White Solid and 7 metallic colours, including Fire Red and Skyscraper Grey for the first time. It also offers two BMW Individual finishes: Frozen Pure Grey and Frozen Portimao Blue, with Zandvoort Blue exclusive to the M240i xDrive Coupé. All models come standard with 19-inch double-spoke M light-alloy wheels in a Bicolour finish, while the M240i xDrive features 19-inch BMW Individual Y-spoke light alloy wheels, also in Bicolour.

Standard ambient lighting

Ambient lighting is standard, and that includes adjustable waterfall lighting (not a typo!) in the central air vents. Users can choose from 9 colours and brightness levels, stored in individual profiles and also affect footwell, centre console and door panel lighting. Additional functions include welcome and goodbye animations, a light carpet at the entrance and light signals for incoming calls and open doors.
