SG: Uber to guarantee minimum peak hour earnings
Uber will ensure that its drivers make a minimum sum per hour during the weekday peak periods. This is unlike any scheme seen in the taxi business locally before, where a cabbie’s income is determined through fare takings. By bucking the trend, the firm hopes to increase its supply of cars on the roads, which should in turn, benefit commuters. The minimum sum will also ensure that the quality and reliability of the service would remain at a constant high standard. Each private car hire driver will be able to earn up to $32 per hour on weekdays during the morning peak hours (6:00am to 10:00am), and $27 per hour on weekday evenings from 5:00pm and 11:00pm. However, to qualify for the minimum hourly rate, drivers have to meet certain criteria, which includes staying online on the app for at least 55 minutes of every hour, complete a minimum of one ride an hour and accept close to all bookings.
