SG: Tighter regulations for Power-Assisted Bicycles

SG: Tighter regulations for Power-Assisted Bicycles

As announced in late 2015, the LTA will tighten the technical regulations for power-assisted bicycles (PABs). The regulations include the imposing of stricter penalties for those who sell and use non-compliant PABs. These measures are intended to improve safety for PAB users and for other road users, including pedestrians. On the technical side, the regulations consists of rules which require resellers and dealers to, from 1st February 2016, to comply with new requirements that are aligned with European Standard EN15194. Once the individual models are approved, they will be given a new orange seal. Members of the public who are buying PABs should look out for the new orange seal which will be affixed to PABs that meet the revised technical requirements. Existing PABs will still remain legal for use in Singapore. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
