SG: Tidal gate to be built to solve flooding woes

A day after flash floods caused AYE to close, the government has announced a solution to the flooding woes. They intend to built a tidal gate at Sungei Pandan Kechil canal, preventing high tides from the sea from flowing into the canal. This gate can help buy some time for water to dissipate during bouts of heavy rain. PUB has also added that heavy rain and high tide, and the fact that AYE sat on a junction where 3 major drains meet as the reasons for the flash flood. The culverts at the intersection will be widened to increase water flow. Works are scheduled to start from end September and is scheduled to complete on the 4th quarter of 2014.
