SG: The New Golf GTI To Debut This Week
The first Golf GTI launched 37 years ago, defined a fundamental standard for dynamic performance that was more precise than any other compact car. With about 1.9 million units produced at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg and sold worldwide, the Golf GTI is considered the most successful of its type in the world. Now, the seventh generation GTI has arrived and is set to debut in Singapore on 6 July 2013. The new Golf GTI features a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine from the third generation of the EA888 engine series and has a completely newly developed cylinder head. The all-new Golf GTI sends 220 bhp to the front wheels, sending double the power than the first Golf GTI. It is marked by innovative technical modifications such as exhaust gas cooling integrated in the cylinder head and a dual injection system with both direct injection and multi point injection.
The seventh generation Golf GTI has a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox as standard and has a low fuel consumption value of 6.6 L/100km. The combined fuel consumption was reduced by 0.8 litres compared to the previous model. It accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 244km/h. The new Golf GTI is impressively penetrating into the market segment of high-class and considerably more expensive sports cars more than ever before.
On the exterior, the new Golf GTI features red painted brake calipers, smoked rear lights as well as chrome tailpipes on the left and right. The production colours ‘Tornado Red’ and ‘Black’ as well as ‘Pure White’ have been typical for the Golf GTI since its early days. Also standard on-board the most powerful, fastest and most fuel-efficient Golf GTI ever are the newly designed 18-inch ‘Austin’ alloy wheels with size 225/40 tyres.
The GTI instrument cluster also makes a strong statement with a color display and unique instrument graphics. The GTI-specific look in the interior is rounded out by such features as a leather sport steering wheel, red ambience lighting (in front, in the trim strips of the doors and the stainless steel door sill guards) and pedals made of brushed stainless steel. This is the first Golf GTI to launch with standard technology highlights such as progressive steering, driving profile selector, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and the further advanced XDS+ vehicle dynamics function.
The launch price of the new Golf GTI is $199,800 including COE.
