SG: Singaporean Girl in critical condition after accident in New Zealand
A Singaporean family of five was on a two week holiday in New Zealand when they were met with a severe collision which saw the RAV4 they were piloting hit a tree and roll over. At the time of the accident, the parents, 10-year old twins and an older brother were onboard the SUV. They lost control, near Lake Rotorua , a popular tourist sport in New Zealand's North Island, at roughly 11:15am New Zealand time. The impact crushed the passenger side of the car and the damaged doors had to be removed with hydraulic cutters to retrieve the injured family. One of the twins suffered serious head injuries and currently is in a critical condition. She is warded at Starship Hospital in Auckland. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Police cite black ice as the cause of the collision. A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the officers were in touch with the family, and they are scheduled to return to Singapore this Saturday.
