SG: S$7 million overhaul for Marina Bay Cruise Centre
A $7 million overhaul is part of the plan to improve facilities and services at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre, in a bid to cure congestion issues; currently, from ship to kerb side, expect to wait for up to 45 minutes. However, with the revamped facilities, do expect that number to tumble to a measly 15. As part of the plan, a fourth fourth passenger bridge to expedite boarding and disembarking. The increased traffic flow would render the existing baggage handling system inadequate; the refreshed system will be able to handle up to 1,200 bags per hour, or about 800 more than the current system. 2 X-ray machines will be added at the arrival screening area, and an additional 20 check-in counters should also help with the increased flow. Transport out of the terminal would be aided by a redesigned taxi area, which will allow up to nine taxis to be boarded at the same time, as compared to the one or two pre-refresh. All sounds good in theory, but no one knows for sure how well the system can actually cope. It will be put to the test for the first time on the 21st of November, when it will have to handle two big ships at the same time.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
