SG: Plan aids improvements in public transport

It has been one year since the Bus Service Enhancement Programme has been launched, and according to Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew, more than 111 bus services have been improved. This major plan, which is worth $1.1 billion, was launched last September and would see 550 new buses added to the fleet of the major public transport operators. So far, more than half of the new buses have been commissioned for service, with some serving current routes and others being used in new routes. The government has also planned to introduce another 200 buses by 4th quarter this year. After that, reviews will be carried out in 2014 to see if further improvements are necessary.
