SG: Part of Orchard Road to become no-car zone

A 660-metre stretch of Orchard Road will be closed to traffic on the first Saturday evening of every month from October! Dubbed Pedestrian Night, sections of road spanning from between Scotts Road and Bideford Road will be closed to cars from 6pm to 11pm. That said, the carparks will remain accessible, according to the spokesperson of the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA). The closed roads will become a community space for activities. It is hoped that by closing off stretches of road to cars, Orchard Road will become a vibrant lifestyle destination with an array of activities for all to enjoy. The first ever Pedestrian Night on the 4th of October will see Tennis Pops Up @ Orchard Road. This coincidences with the upcoming WTA Finals, which will be held in Singapore. ORBA expects a turnout of 20,000 to 30,000 spectators, and at least 3,000 participants.
