SG: NSL Sleeper replacement works to be completed by end-April
96,000 timber sleepers would have been replaced with concrete ones on the NSL come end-April 2015. Works to replace the aging wooden sleepers, which we changed for reliability, began late last year. To facilitate the programme whilst not affecting day-to-day operations, train services had to end half an hour earlier on weekday nights, whilst operation speeds dropped to 40 from 80 km/h. More will eventually be done to up reliability and improve frequencies. With the NSL done, it is the EWL’s turn to receive fresh sleepers. Expect slight delays of up to 10 minutes from now on, which will eventually be lifted when track works on the EWL are complete. Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
