SG: Negligent lorry driver jailed and banned from driving

Li Qiang, a 40 year old Singapore Permanent Resident, has been sentenced to a 1 week jail term accompanied by a 9 month driving ban after failing to retract a crane boom on the heavy vehicle he was driving. The extended arm hit a bridge along the PIE, causing 1 part of the boom to fall in close proximity to several passing cars, while the other fell straight through a car’s windscreen, missing and infant in the rear bench by inches. The infant was fine, although the father, Mr Neo, fainted. He was warded for 4 days, and was given 18 days of medical leave. Thankfully, this incident didn’t turn out any worse, for if it did, Li may be sentenced to a lot more than just 1 week imprisonment.
