SG: More taxis available at peak periods

Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew said that more than 1,300 additional taxis were available for hire during peak hours this year. This increase can be attributed to the introduction of the Taxi Availability standards in January of 2013. The scheme has driven the percentage of taxis on-roads during peak periods up to 87% in 2013 compared to the 82% in 2012. Taxis that clock at least 250km in mileage has increased to 78% as well. LTA will also carry out a taxi information trial at five selected taxi stands later in 2014. This would enable the LTA to track commuter demands and then rely the information to the operators, so they could better dispatch drivers to satisfy needs.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
