SG: More safety zones to be introduced

For a couple of years now, a variety of ‘safety zones’ have been trialed in areas with high concentrations of elderly folk. Now, the ‘safety zones’ will finally make their way out of these areas and into an additional 5 estates. These zones, fitted with speed humps to slow down vehicles, centre dividers with railings to deter jaywalking, signs to alert motorists, aim to improve the general safety of the roads. It is hoped that these safety measure reduce the number of older pedestrians being killed on the road, for last year, almost 40% of those killed on the roads were in their silver years.
