SG: More caught by new red light cameras

SG: More caught by new red light cameras

There has been a 37.4% increase in fines issued for beating the red light after the new digital red light cameras have been implemented. Between March and September of 2014, almost 26,000 tickets were issued, as compared to the 19,000 for the whole of 2013. The increase is attributed to the new cameras, which can identify licence plate numbers and require no film changes. Before the digital red light cameras, films had to be replaced and processed to catch the offenders.  There are 120 new cameras scattered across Singapore. Offenders will be awarded 12 demerit points and a $200 fine.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
