SG: Man arrested for robbing car owner

35 year old Malaysian worker Lee Heong Chye has been arrested and sentenced to 4.5 years in jail, with 12 strokes of the cane for robbing 33 year old Chung Yi Ren’s cash and property, valued at $2,251, at knifepoint. He has also been banned from driving for 5 years. Robbery wasn’t the only crime Lee committed. He pleaded guilty to using morphine and possessing heroin.He was cash strapped at the time of the robbery, and wasn’t arrested till 3 days later at Royal Plaza on Scotts, not for robbery initially, but on suspicion of drug consumption. He could have been sentenced for up to 10 years and at least six strokes of the cane for the robbery, and could face an extra 10 years' jail and a $20,000 fine for using and possessing drugs.
