SG: Majority wants revamped COE system

The LTA conducted a poll to ask if the COE system needed revamping. Of the 3900 that participated, almost 80% would like the current system to be revised. Many would like COE categories to be classified by their OMV and not their engine capacity. The revamped system would allow luxury cars to be more isolated from mass market cars, reducing the cost of car ownership. According to Chew Hock Yong, Chief Executive at LTA, the COE review is in the final stages. The switch over from the current system would be carried out gradually to guarantee enough time for the public and the industry to adapt to the changes.
