SG: Government to review COE system

SG: Government to review COE system

The Government is currently reviewing the COE system. They will look into two main areas- the classification of high end and mass market models, as well as the reclassification of cars based on engine power. The comments were made by Transport Minister, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, when he paid a visit to the Marina Coastal Expressway project site.  The review comes after concerns regarding the current buying trend caused by the new loan regulations; more than 1/3rd of the vehicles purchased in this period were high end cars, compared to less than 7% in the same period in 2010. It is hoped that after the review,  the categorisation of Category A and B COE would be refined. Engine power is another criteria that the LTA is looking into.
