SG: Driver fined and banned from driver after causing crash at Rochor Road

31 year old Kelvin Seah Koon Yong, an employee at a seafood supplier was fined $8000 and disqualified from driving for 3 years after causing a dramatic crash at the junction of Victoria Street and Rochor Road. Mr Seah was tipsy when he drove home in the wee hours of the 26th May 2012. He ran a red light in Victoria Street, causing him to crash into a side of a taxi, before rebounding and hitting another car. The taxi spun around twice before it came to a halt, but the car spun out of control and only stopped when it impacted a traffic light pole and concrete barricade at one corner of the junction.

The whole episode was witnessed by a traffic police officer who was carrying out his road block duties at the junction. When the car finally rested, the officer approached the car to find out that although Seah was able to walk steadily and talk normally, he could smell alcohol in his breath and also spotted his bloodshot eyes.

Seah failed a breathalyser test and was taken to the police station. Further testing revealed he had 42 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol per 100ml of breath, 7mcg above the legal limit. He pleaded guilty to drink driving and dangerous driving in court yesterday.
