SG: Builder files for insolvency, delays completion of DTL 2.
Troubled Austrian builder Alpine Bau’s comprehensive restructuring plan failed, resulting in them filing for insolvency last week. The firm, which was the main contractor scheduled to work on the Downtown Line 2's three stations - King Albert Park, Sixth Avenue and Tan Kah Kee, had to halt construction. 3 stations who are lagging behind in the building schedule may not seem like much, but according to industry experts, the entire project could be compromised and be delayed by up a period to six months. Alpine Bau's dive into insolvency was so sudden it caught the LTA by surprise; days before the firm sworn their commitment to complete the station and tunnelling works to the authorities. So far, about half of the work on the three stations and tunnels have been completed.
When completed, the DTL would link Singapore’s North-Western region to the upcoming Marina downtown. Progress has been swift, with the first stage that will link Bugis and Chinatown to Marina Bay opening the fourth quarter of this year.
