Refreshed Audi A5 Hits Our Shores. Boasts Groundbreaking Connectivity.
Singapore - Following the launch on the refreshed Audi A4, sister car, the Audi A5 breaks cover, carrying with it Audi’s new design language. Launched virtually last night, the A5 which boasts even better connectivity, is available in all variants, the Coupe, Sportback and Cabriolet. Tweaked exterior design sees a flatter and wider singleframe honeycomb grille. In paying homage to their 1984 Group B rally hero, the Audi Quattro, the A5 now sports ventilation shits above the grille. A revised front bumper also gets a bold blade on its lower edge, and features larger air inlets. The A5’s trapezoidal rear tailpipes are encased within a new rear diffuser, the combination which visually widens the car.
The A5 also received Audi’s new MMI touch system, which was introduced in the A4. The new infotainment system ditches the rotary pushbutton, in favour of a 10.1” touch display which features acoustic feedback. Graphics has also been tidied up, and the MMI search intelligently supports free text inputs, allowing you to scribble away (like how we did in the Q3 recently), and responds quickly to requests. The system also has natural-language voice control, which understands the formulations of everyday speech, meaning natural allowance for the “errs” before the actual command is given. The A5 range here will all be equipped with the top of the line MMI navigation plus infotainment control centre.
Behind the wheel, the full-HD 12.3” display, which fronts the Audi virtual cockpit has three available views, with functions which the driver can access easily via the steering wheel. Drivers can now also access their car functions, using the myAudi app.
For now, the Singapore-spec Audi A5 will get two 2.0 TFSI engines, in 2 states of tune; a milder 150hp and a higher-powered 190hp. Both are paired to Audi’s quick-shifting seven-speed S tronic transmission. Both powertrains now feature the mild hybrid system (MHEV), which is integrated into the 12-volt electrical system. Central to this system, is the belt alternator starter (BAS), which is connected to the crankshaft.
Just like the pre-facelift, the Audi A5 is also able to coast while cruising between speeds of 55 and 160km/h, helping to reduce fuel consumption, while the lithium-ion battery keeps essentials working normally. When the accelerator is depressed, the BAS restarts the engine, smoothly and quickly. According to Audi, the MHEV system can reduce consumption by up to 0.3L/100km.
The new A5 range starts from $188,900, inclusive of COE and VES.
