Porsche is broadening its range of all-electric sports sedans by introducing the Taycan Turbo GT and the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package. The latter, geared towards track performance, ditches rear seats to optimise power-to-weight ratio.

Both models deliver over 1,100 PS peak power and incorporate various lightweight and aerodynamic measures for enhanced driving dynamics. The rear axle features a more potent and efficient pulse inverter utilising silicon carbide as the semiconductor material.

King of the Ring

A pre-production version of the same new model recently set a new class record on the Nürburgring. Porsche test driver Kern achieved a lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife. This time is 26 seconds faster than Kern's last record lap in a Taycan Turbo S Sport sedan with the performance package set in August 2022. This is the current record for series-production electric cars, and establishes the Turbo GT as the fastest four-door car of any powertrain type on the Nürburgring.

Cheat code, activated

“Attack Mode” provides an extra 120 kW of power for 10 seconds upon activation with a button press. It's adapted from the push-to-pass function of other Taycan models and optimised for track driving, resembling the system used in Porsche's 99X racing cars in the Electric ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The boost is visually indicated by a countdown timer in the instrument cluster and animated rings on the speedometer.

Engineering, refined

In the Taycan Turbo GT models, the pulse inverter is a crucial component for electric motor control. Equipped with rear axle pulse inverters capable of handling up to 900 amperes, these models deliver increased power and torque compared to the Taycan Turbo S, which uses a 600-ampere pulse inverter. The use of silicon carbide as the semiconductor material in the pulse inverter enhances efficiency by reducing switching losses in the PWR and allowing for higher switching frequencies.

Shaved weight

Porsche has implemented intelligent lightweight construction techniques to reduce the weight of the Taycan Turbo GT by up to 75kg compared to the Taycan Turbo S. Carbonfibre is utilised in on the B-pillars, upper shells on the door mirrors and side skirt inlays. Lightweight features including full bucket seats made of CFRP, a lightweight luggage compartment, and the elimination of the electric soft-closing function for the tailgate further contribute to weight savings.

Spoiler alert

Porsche developed a front spoiler with aeroblades specifically for the Taycan Turbo GT. The rear view is dominated by an adaptive spoiler, the tear-off edge of which features a Gurney flap in a high-gloss carbon-weave finish.

Wicked Weissach

The Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package is optimised for precision and performance with additional aerodynamic enhancements and lightweight construction measures. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds. Top speed reaches 305 km/h compared to the standard model's 290 km/h.
