Porsche has introduced a major upgrade to its 911 sports car with the launch of the new 911 Carrera GTS. This model marks the first street-legal 911 to feature a super-lightweight performance hybrid system. Equipped with a newly developed 3.6-ltre engine, the GTS delivers significantly enhanced driving performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and reaching a top speed of 312 km/h.

Alongside the GTS, the 911 Carrera will also be available, powered by a slightly modified 3.0-litre twin-turbo boxer engine. Both models come with refreshed designs, improved aerodynamics, updated interiors, enhanced standard features and expanded connectivity options.

What is a T-Hybrid system in the 911 Carrera GTS?

The T-Hybrid system incorporates a newly designed electric exhaust gas turbocharger. Positioned between the compressor and turbine wheel, an integrated electric motor spins up the turbo, generating instant boost pressure. Acting as a generator, this motor produces up to 11 kW of electric power from the exhaust gas flow. Unlike traditional setups, this wastegate-free electric turbocharger utilises only one turbocharger instead of two, ensuring a more responsive power delivery.

How powerful is the 911 Carrera GTS?

The new 911 Carrera GTS is equipped with a 3.6-litre boxer engine, delivering 357kW (485PS) and 570Nm of torque. With a combined system output of 398kW (541PS) and 610 Nm, it boasts a substantial power increase of 45kW (61PS) compared to its predecessor. Despite its efficient performance hybrid system, the GTS maintains relatively low CO2 emissions and adds only 50kg of weight compared to its predecessor.

Does the 911 Carrera GTS handle well?

The 911 Carrera GTS sees a significant suspension upgrade, including standard rear-axle steering for improved stability.. Porsche integrates the PDCC anti-roll stabilisation system into the performance hybrid's high-voltage setup, enhancing control with an electro-hydraulic system. With a sports suspension featuring variable damping (PASM) and a 10mm lower ride height, the GTS should deliver trademark handling prowess.

Does the new 911 Carrera look different from the previous version?

Porsche has given the 911 a sleeker exterior design with targeted updates, focusing on improving aerodynamics and performance. Changes include new model-specific bumpers and the integration of all light functions into the standard matrix LED headlights, featuring a distinctive four-point graphic. This allows for the removal of front driving lights, creating space for larger cooling vents at the front of the car.

Is the new 911 Carrera fast?

The 911 Carrera retains its 3.0-litre boxer engine with twin turbocharging but has been upgraded with features like the intercooler from Turbo models. Now standard in the Carrera, the turbochargers were previously exclusive to GTS models. These improvements result in increased power output to 290kW (394PS) and 450Nm. The new 911 Carrera Coupé deals with century sprints in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono package) and reaches a top speed of 294 km/h.

Instrument cluster with five-tube dial design, digitised!

The new 911 marks a significant evolution with its first-ever fully digital instrument cluster. This 12.6-inch curved display is integrated into the redesigned control and display setup, allowing personalisation with up to seven different views. It includes an exclusive Classic display, reminiscent of the traditional Porsche five-tube dial design. While the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system remains accessible through the 10.9-inch central display, improvements have been made to customise driving modes and operate driver assistance systems more effectively.
