Porsche Launches The Taycan, Their First Full EV

Singapore, 22 September - You know that times are changing when even an iconic sports car manufacturer launches an EV.  The all new Porsche Taycan is a long-awaited development from Stuttgart. Launched virtually, the new Taycan promises an exhilarating driving experience. From the Porsche Electric Sport Sound, which is a play on the sound the electric motors make, to it’s sheer acceleration; to the flagship Turbo S model accelerating to 100km/h in all of 2.8 seconds, which are the same acceleration figures as the blisteringly quick 911 GT2 RS.  The Taycan Turbo S generates up to 1,050Nm of torque, with Launch Control, and has a top speed of 260km/h. On a full charge, you can expect a maximum range of 405km.  The middle-of-the-pack Taycan Turbo generates up to 500 kW (680 PS) of overboost power in combination with Launch Control, and up to 850Nm, clocking 100km/h in 3.2 seconds.  While the third model, the Taycan 4S clocks 100km/h in 4 seconds, with the help of 390kW (530 PS), and has a range of 365km. The available Performance Battery Plus adds 49km to its maximum range, while performance increases to 420kW (571 PS).

Going against the flow of the trend currently adopted by most EVs, which promote one pedal driving, the Taycan sticks with a traditional two pedal format, retaining realism in the driving experience.

The Taycan is the very first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800V, instead of 400V used by current-day EVs. The architecture is intended for consistent high performance, and significantly reduces charging time at high-powered charging points.

The higher performance Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo models are equipped with the Performance Battery Plus, a larger battery that can conduct higher currents, which in-turn speeds up both the car’s charging process significantly. Under optimal conditions at 800 V charging stations, with a maximum charging capacity (peak) of 270 kW, the battery can be recharged for a range of up to 100 km (according to WLTP) in just over five minutes. Additionally, the charging time for five to 80 percent SoC (state of charge) is 22.5 minutes.

Charging at regular 400V charging points, an on-board DC charger with 150kW is equipped as standard. The Taycan has also a 11kW AC charger, which allows the battery to be fully charged in a span of 9 hours.

Styling-wise, the Taycan retains Porshce’s design DNA, with its wide rear haunches and sloping roofline. The Taycan Turbo S is fitted with lightweight Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) and exquisite carbon exterior elements, setting it apart from the other two models. LED Matrix Headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) are equipped as standard for the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo, while the Taycan 4S comes with LED Headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus).

In reflecting the Taycan’s sustainable production mantra, both the Turbo S and Turbo models have leather-free interiors, while the Taycan 4S has a leather-free option. All cars also have interiors made from recycled materials.

Taking inspiration from the original 1963 911, the Taycan’s dashboard also features a freestanding 16.9” curved instrument cluster, which forms the highest point on the dashboard. A 10.9” infotainment display, and a passenger display (optional), are combined to form an integrated glass band, in a “black-panel” look.
