The German sports car manufacturer owned 42 percent of Volkswagen last year when their efforts to increase their shareholdings were stymied when Volkswagen share prices hit 1,000 Euros per share.

Because of Porsche's 50.76 percent ownership in Volkswagen, they are now required by Swedish laws to make an offer for all outstanding Scania shares. Volkswagen is the majority shareholder in the heavy truck manufacturing company.

Porsche's goal in 2009 is to raise its stake in Volkswagen to 75 more than 75 percent, thus giving it total control over the group.
