Peugeot's e-2008 EV SUV Set For September Launch

The new Peugeot e-2008 SUV will be shown to the media on 15 September, but we now have the full details including pricing - one “GT” variant will be available, costing S$78,888 without COE. It will fall under the category A COE structure, which means it will likely hover around the S$170k mark if confirmed bids for the next COE do not waver much.

The e-2008 bears a specific “e” monogram on the front fenders and tailgate to distinguish it from the regular, non-electric variant. A 50kWh battery provides a range of up to 345km according to WLTP standards. Charging from 0 to 80% can be as fast as 30 minutes with a 100kW DC charger. Performance is rated at 130Bhp and 260Nm. For comparison, battery size and range for its likeliest rival, Hyundai’s similarly-priced Kona Electric, is 39.2kWh and 305km respectively. It offers 135Nm more torque than the e-2008.

The e-2008 is not based on an EV-specific architecture, but engineers have managed to fit batteries as low as possible for optimal centre of gravity, allowing for the same room and boot volume as its petrol 2008 sibling.

The interior will be headlined by a holographic-style instrument cluster that projects indicators closer to the eye, aiming to increase reaction times based on the degree of importance. A 10-inch touchscreen supports wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Despite its futuristic aesthetics, it comes with seven toggle switches for main control functions like active safety systems and vehicle settings. Based on first impressions would you opt for this or the Kona EV?
