New Ride for Doc and Marty?... One Point Two One Jigowatts of Power Maybe?

The Future is Back! Well almost…. DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) announced plans to release a “new” car in 2017. Those of us who grew up with the exploits of Doc and Marty would be able to see approximately 300 units for sale.

Beginning production in 1981 in Northern Ireland, the DMC 12 rolled off production lines with a bad-ass stainless steel body, which many owners left as is. While the Peugeot-Renault-Volvo powerplant supplied 130 horsepower to move the car decently, it was never a fast car.

DMC is now examining a number of engine options which would be suitable for its re-release, and have said that the new engine should be good for anything between 300-400bhp. Other changes would include a new set of rims, either 17 or 18-inch units to cope with the increase in power that the car will produce. DMC also says that performance tyres are not available for the original 15” units current-day. Other upgrades include uprated brakes and heated seats, GPS navigation and mobile phone connectivity.

So the question is, how fast will the new car be able to hit 88mph?
