New Peugeot 508 Finally In Singapore

Peugeot finally launches their D segment sedan in Singapore, and man… does it have road presence! While Peugeot has been dishing out facelift after facelift of their current range, their new sedan is a welcoming breath of fresh air in their showroom. Their new sedan sports coupe-like fastback styling, and is easily distinguishable with its striking blade-like DRLs, and claw marked rear lighting, that is taken straight from the French auto manufacturer’s most recent concept cars.

Pierre-Paul Mattei, Design Director for the new 508 states that: “We actually rewrote the rules of D-segment saloon shapes. To get such proportions when the length had been reduced by eight centimetres compared to the previous generation, we moved the glazing support back to give the car a larger bonnet. Then there’s the frameless-door technology, which meant we could reduce the vehicle’s height in relation to the car’s rivals in the segment. The car’s height is 6 cm lower than in the previous model! That also makes the vehicle appear especially wide even though it actually has a rather average width. As the car had to be particularly aerodynamic, we designed it to be narrower at the rear than at the front, contrary to the impression it might give! We achieved this charismatic stance on the road through the extreme tightening of the cabin, which also made it possible for us to produce the rear wings on a scale rarely reached before. It’s one of the secrets behind the pose of the new PEUGEOT 508.”

Owners will be greeted by the 508’s i-Cockpit which features a 10” infotainment touchscreen and a high resolution 12.3” digital head-up display. As-per current Peugeot models, the 508 also receives their quirky compact steering wheel, and banana-shaped shift-by-wire gearshift lever, offering a link to its 8-speed automatic. The cockpit themes are customisable with six different display modes.

The Peugeot 508 is built on the brand's EMP2 platform that includes 24m of structural adhesive, often seen on supercars, greatly providing rigidity. The 508’s architecture is 70kg lighter than the car it replaces, and the weight savings improve overall fuel efficiency and performance.

For Singapore, the Peugeot 508 is offered here in only their highest GT trim, and receives the lower-powered of two available PureTech engines, good for 178bhp and 250Nm.

The new Peugeot 508 retails for $159,888, inclusive of COE.
