New Hyundai Palisade Large SUV Walls Occupants With Impressive Suite Of Safety Equipment
Korean car brand, Hyundai has been on a new car launching offensive. And with a recent announcement that there will be even more focus on their N-badged cars, like the KONA N small SUV. The all-new Palisade is the Korean brand’s largest SUV, and it is also at the moment, their only three-row people carrier here, until the smaller next-generation Santa Fe is announced. Boldly styled with a dormant cascading front grille, and with uniquely designed stacked LED lighting, the Palisade is big on road presence. Originally intended for the North American market, where larger-bodied cars are quite the norm, Singapore is one of the few markets in the region to field this ginormous SUV. Komoco Motors, our local Hyundai dealership sells just one variant of the flagship Palisade, which is an 8-seater. With all trade discounts, and a C1 VES penalty, the Palisade retails for $216,999. Power comes from a 3.5 litre natural-breathing Lambda II series V6, that delivers 277hp and 336Nm, and is matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Fuel consumption figures, according to Hyundai, is claimed to stand at a 10km/l (combined).
The dash design takes advantage of how wide the interior is, with large, easy to poke buttons scattered on the centre console. Hyundai has also done away with a traditional gearshift lever, and replaced it with a set of buttons, since the transmission now runs on a shift-by-wire system. In the middle, a 10.25” screen that fronts the infotainment, while the driver will get a 7” digital TFT display, that is flanked by analogue dials. Both Apple and Android devices are supported, and to keep your mobile device charged, there is a wireless charger under the sliding cover of the central stowage. A Driver Talk intercom system in the front of the cabin helps project conversations to the occupants to the rear, so that no one needs to raise their voice. Up to two Bluetooth devices can be connected to the infotainment system at the same time; with the intent that occupants are keen to play another device’s playlist.
With the Palisade, Hyundai has ensured that access to the third row is made simple; with one-touch second row seats, that eliminates the strain of manual shifting and sliding. Third-row passengers will benefit from seats that power fold and recline up to 10 degrees. Among the many cubbyholes, the Hyundai Palisade comes equipped with 16 cup holders, while cool comfort, via a roof vent diffuser - an industry first, which can be adjusted for a partially or fully diffused stream of airflow, for rear passengers. The Palisade is equipped with twin sunroofs, including a fixed rear unit, adding more natural light into the cabin.
Safety wise, the Palisade benefits from class-leading torsional rigidity, contributed in-part by multiple ring-shaped structures within its chassis design, and hot-stamped door ring elements. The inclusion of Hyundai’s SMARTSENSE suite of active safety and driving assistance technologies, like Blindspot Collision Warning (BCW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCCW) which warns and applies the brakes when it detects vehicles or even pedestrians passing crossing your path while you are reversing; are important inclusions. Other safety systems like a Surround View Monitor (SVM), providing drivers with a top-down view, which is helpful when navigating tight spaces.
Six standard airbags, which includes dual front, dual side and roll-over-sensing full-length side curtain airbags; contributes to the Palisade’s 5-star NHTSA rating.
