Kah Motor Co. Sdn. Bhd. has introduced the Honda Freed with an e:HEV powertrain, available in two variants: HE7 and HS7. The third-generation Freed features a sleeker design with improved visibility. Built around Honda’s human-centric design philosophy, the Freed aims to offer practical solutions for daily life while bringing joy to its users, embodying the "Smile Just Right Mover" concept.

Gone are the days where high-revving VTEC motors rule the streets - this is the new era for Honda, and their hybrid drivetrains have already proven to be excellent.

Bigger, more practical, more efficient

Honda Freed has grown in length to accommodate the two-motor hybrid system, while maintaining its easy-to-handle size. The redesigned first-row seats improve walk-through space and access to the second row. Larger rear quarter windows create a brighter, more open cabin. The front pillar’s position and revised door mirrors improve visibility and safety. The third-row seats are lighter, thinner and fold more efficiently.

Hybrid works best here

The third-generation Honda Freed is now equipped with the e:HEV system, which combines two electric motors, a 1.5L In-Line 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine, a lithium-ion battery and a fixed-gear transmission, working together to deliver a balance of fuel efficiency and acceleration. The e:HEV setup offers three interchangeable drive modes.

How efficient is it?

This built-in-Japan Freed can achieve a claimed 19.6km/l on the combined cycle. 2 trim levels offered - Freed HS7 will set you back S$161,099, while the HE7 is priced at S$166,099.

Give me a quick summary of the Civic

Both variants now feature a sharper front-end design. The Civic turbo (S$172,099) is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged DOHC VTEC producing 129ps and 180Nm. Fuel economy is rated at 15.6km/l.

The 2.0-litre e:HEV features a 2.0L Atkinson Cycle 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine with a two-motor e:HEV system, generating 143ps and 315Nm. It achieves 21.7km/l in fuel economy. It’s much more costly though, coming in at S$223,099. Unlike the JDM Freed, the Civic is made in Thailand.
