It embodies these values very well - it too is a front-engined car, with a simple yet elegant form, and a 2+ fastback coupé design. Modern design touches have also been incorporated in the styling of the Roma, resulting in pure and refined styling that cleverly conceal the car’s power and sportiness.

One example of such a touch is the active rear spoiler. When not in use, it is stowed away to avoid sullying the lines of the car. When the wheels are turned in anger, it springs up to generate the downforce that the car needs. Ferrari has also done away with massive grilles upfront, choosing instead to only incorporate perforation when strictly necessary.

You’ll find the underpinnings of the Portofino underneath that svelte body. The powerplant is the same 3.9 L Ferrari F154BE V8 as used in the Portofino. This is also the same engine that has been voted International Engine of the Year for four years in a row. However, in Roma guise, it has received several key upgrades ; new cam profiles, engine speed sensors, and the introduction of the Gasoline Particulate Filter, help the car to produce some impressive power figures whilst being emissions compliant.

The 612 rampaging Italian horses are then transferred to the road through a new 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It is more compact, and around 6 kgs lighter than its predecessors. Additional advancements also mean significantly faster shifts that make for a more responsive drive.

On the inside, you’ll find two separate cells, filled with all the creature comforts and controls that each respective occupant needs. The driver has a curved 16 inch HD screen for an instrument cluster, fully customisable as it is digital. The steering wheel has had haptic controls fitted, complimenting the wide array of switches Ferrari already fits to their older wheels. These are used to control every aspect of the car without the driver ever needing to take their hands off the wheel.

Separating the cells is a new 8.4” HD central display, responsible for infotainment, sat-nav and climate control duties. The passenger gets an optional 8.8” colour Full HD touchscreen too, that can output the car’s performance figures and status. It can also used to select music, navigation and for changing aircon settings.

Ferrari has designed the Roma to be engaging to drive when the driver calls for it. It has a
chassis built with advanced technologies, which then translates into a low overall vehicle weight. Clever electronics integrate all of its assist systems, and further helps in the handling for a more engaging and entertaining drive!
