New BMW X7 Revealed, All Three Engine Variants Include Mild Hybrid Tech

The BMW X7 has developed into the most successful BMW model in the luxury class. This new member of BMW’s Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment has been designed to include a couple of key upgrades - a new front end including a new-look M Sport package, the possibility of massive factory-fitted 23-inch light-alloy wheels and the latest-generation iDrive control/operation system that incorporates the BMW Curved Display and BMW Operating System 8 also found on the tech-laden BMW iX.

The new BMW X7 also comes with an expanded range of standard equipment, additional driver assistance systems and the latest 48V mild hybrid technology for the three engine variants offered. It will be produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, the competence centre for BMW X models in the US state of South Carolina, with the worldwide market launch to commence in August 2022.

Its design underscores its status as one of the brand’s flagship models. Over at the front, split headlight units will make their debut. The new adaptive matrix LED headlights with non-dazzling high beam and adaptive light distribution now also provide the functionality of front fog lights with their automatic bad weather light.

Discreet cascade lighting for the BMW kidney grilles is a standard feature of the range-topping BMW X7 M60i xDrive, and will be offered as an option for the other model variants, although units set for Singapore might still have to undergo local homologation. Rear lights that now look more sleek than its predecessor round off the rear portion of the SAV.

The second row of the BMW X7 can now accommodate three passengers as “standard”, with a two-seater “lounge-style” configuration as an option. Standard specification for X7s not bound for Europe includes seat surfaces in new “Sensafin” trim - a vegan surface material with leather-like properties that incorporates three-dimensional quilting and surface perforation.

The engine range is led by a 4.4-litre petrol V8 for the range-topping BMW X7 M60i xDrive, which pushes 530 bhp and 750 Nm of torque. This is followed by the xDrive40i that produces 380 bhp and 520 Nm. It can be boosted to as much as 540 Nm with the input of the mild hybrid system. There is also a diesel xDrive40d that churns out 352 bhp and 700 Nm, which can be increased to as much as 720 Nm with the input of the mild hybrid system. All three engine options are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Comfort and safety in the new BMW X7 are enhanced by an expanded selection of automated driving and parking systems, including an upgraded version of the front-collision warning system that comes as standard. Parking Assistant, Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant will also be available at no additional cost.
