New BMW M2 Arrives In Singapore, 6-Speed Manual “Purist Edition” Offered
It will sit alongside an 8-speed automatic in a lineup that will cost you around half a million dollars per pop.
BMW Asia has introduced the new BMW M2, now with an additional 20hp, bringing its 3.0-litre turbocharged straight 6 petrol to a total output of 480hp. The updated model also includes fresh exterior design accents, a revamped interior and the new BMW Operating System 8.5.
“If you are looking for unparalleled performance and driving dynamics, look no further,” said Lars Nielsen, Managing Director, BMW Group Asia. “That is exactly what you will find behind the wheel of the new BMW M2. For enthusiasts who are keen on this icon’s rich heritage, we have something special for them – the new BMW M2 Purist Edition with a six-speed manual gearbox. It pays homage to the purity of the BMW M brand. I am confident that the new BMW M2 will thrill our customers on the roads in Singapore and beyond.”
Enthusiasts demanded for it, they listened
It features a straight-six engine, a six-speed manual gearbox (in the new M2 Purist Edition), and classic rear-wheel drive, distinguishing it from rivals. Compact dimensions, finely tuned chassis for daily driving and track use and a modern operating concept for personalised setup make it as rare as hen’s teeth in this electrified era. It’s produced alongside the BMW 2 Series Coupé at the BMW Group Plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
Torque rich, character-filled
There’s a maximum torque of 550Nm across a rev range from 2,650 to 6,130rpm. In the M2 Purist Edition, peak torque remains at 550Nm, while the standard 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic increases it to 600Nm. The engine produces a maximum output of 480hp at 6,250 rpm, with a redline of 7,200rpm.
Give me more numbers
Let’s start with the auto - 0 - 100km/h arrives in 4 seconds, on to a top speed of 250km/h. Fuel economy is rated at 10.2km/l on the combines cycle. For the 6-speed manual, century sprints are dealt with in 4.2 seconds. Performance might be a tad less manic, but give it an empty stretch of runway and it blasts to 285km/h. It’s less efficient at 9.8km/l, but it’s a M2 after all!
