New Bentley Bentayga Revealed. V8 To Roll Off Assembly Lines, Followed By Hybrid And Speed Models

The Bentley Bentayga has been given an extensive all-round refresh. At a virtual press conference yesterday, Bentley pulled off the sheets to reveal their heavily redesigned ultra luxury SUV, which now more closely reflects the design language of the Third-generation Continental GT, the Continental Convertible and the all-new Flying Spur cars. Jp Gregory, Head of Exterior Design mentioned: “We spent a long time examining how to improve the proportions and character of the car. The new Bentayga is still instantly recognisable as a Bentley, but now has a much greater road presence.”

The redesign sees a larger, more assertive and upright matrix grille. Elliptical headlamps include Bentley signature crystal-cut inspired glassware which features new intelligent LED matrix technology.

The restyling is more evident at the rear, with a new full-width tailgate, featuring new encapsulated lamps, bringing the rear-end closer in design to the rest of the Bentley models. The license plate slot has also been shifted to the bumper for a cleaner appearance.

The Bentayga’s track has also been widened by 20mm, which they have done to improve on the car’s handling, and improves the car’s stance. A redesigned 22” wheel design, available in two finishes, which are unique to the Bentayga, brings the number of available wheel designs to five.

Darren Day, Head of Interior Design said: ”The interior of the Bentayga has always been highly admired for its exceptional build quality, relaxing atmosphere and luxurious ambience.”

“Alongside frm the more obvious changes to the centre console, seats and door trims, it’s the little features customers may not notice at first that add up to make the difference in the new Bentayga. It might be the new, horizontal grab handle in the door, or the unique seat stitching peach one emphasising how the design team has gone the extra mile. The new Bentayga will be a voyage of discovery for our customers.”

The Bentayga’s all-new seats now feature ventilation at the rear, in the five-seat option for improved comfort; and rear passengers can also enjoy improved legroom, of up to 100mm. Two new straight-grained veneers are offered, Koa and Crown Cut Walnut, while the Mulliner Driving Specification adds quilting design, and micro piping detailing as an option to its seats.

The redesigned dash now houses a 10.9” display screen with edge-to-edge graphics. Hardware and software upgrades includes all new-navigation with satellite maps, online search and other experience enhancing features. For the first time, wireless Apple CarPlay is a standard feature, and together with Android Auto, offers improved mobile connectivity. USB-C ports and wireless phone charging are now standard features. Rear passengers also benefit from a larger touchscreen remote tablet, similar to the one found on the Flying Spur.

Production will begin with the V8 4.0 twin-turbocharged model, offering 542bhp and 770Nm. This will be followed by a 3.0 V6 Plug-in Hybrid model, and their range-topping Speed version, featuring their silky-smooth W12 engine.

Wearnes Automotive plans for a launch in Q4, and we might expect an increase in retail price over the previous car’s $839,000 (without COE) price tag.
