The new Volkswagen Tiguan features cutting edge styling, following design cues that can be found from the equally beautiful Passat. Successfully selling more than 2.64 million worldwide, the new car is 60mm longer. A longer wheelbase means more interior room and comfort. And yes it has grown from a Compact SUV, and now slots into a Medium Segment car. Oh yeah, those rims….

Based on the MQB platform, shared with the iconic Golf and Passat, the new Tiguan features excellent space utilisation, with sliding, rear seats, and a class leading maximum luggage space of 1,655 litres. An “Easy Open” boot feature makes loading and unloading much easier, with just a small wave of your foot below the rear bumper of the car.

Power comes from a 2.0 TSi engine, similar to the one found in the Golf GTi, mated to a 7 speed DSG gearbox. New to the car, is a fuel saving Active Cylinder Management system for the 1.4 litre version, which deactivates the middle cylinders during lower loads, to speeds of up to 130km/h.

According to VW Singapore, the Highline model is priced at $162,900, while the R-Line will go for $189,900. There is a launch promotion valid till 18 January, where the cars are going for $5,000 off the listed price!
