MY: Opposition calls for suspension of toll fees

Pakatan Rakyat, a Malaysian opposition coalition in Johor Bahru, has called on the Malaysian Government to suspend toll fees for those travelling to Singapore until they have had discussions with the general public and various businesses. He believes the increased rates have been rashly introduced. It is also believed that Pakatan Rakyat were those behind the protest at Woodlands Checkpoint, although the rumour was debunked by opposition members at a news conference in Johor on the 2nd of August. They believe that both Singapore and Malaysia should engage in talks to help better adjust the toll charges, and to justify why they need the increase. Singapore has attributed the increase to help balance the cost of owning a foreign-registered car in Singapore, while Malaysia has said it is for the utilisation of the highways leading to the checkpoint.Pictures used for illustration purposes only.
