MY: Foreign car levies to cost RM50

Cars entering Malaysia via Johor will have to pay a levy of not less that RM50. This announcement comes after Singapore decided to raise fees for foreign-registered vehicles entering the Republic from July. Malaysian Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi believed the levy is fair, for the Singaporean currency is stronger than the Malaysian Ringgit. So far, there has been no news of when the new levy will be implemented, although it is expected that they should start charging the levies at the end of the year. Singapore's Ministry of Transport has responded to the matter, and has expressed concern that Malaysia is intentionally picking on Singaporean motorists, for only vehicles entering Malaysia by Johor will be charged. That said, should the levy be introduced, it is expected that less cars make the journey across the causeway.
