Shell just released the results for their Live Life Full-On with Shell FuelSave survey, a nationwide study on the impact of fuel efficiency on people's daily lives. Over 1,000 motorists ranging from 18-50 years old participated in the survey.

Not enough time

According to the results, 73% of the motorists in Singapore feel that they don't have as much time to do what they want compared to a year ago. Over half (58%) went so far as to claim they don't even have the time to actually do more enjoyable things every week.

This has resulted in motorists having to adjust their lifestyle, often for the worse. about 4 out of 10 motorists (45%), have had to spend less time with friends and in some cases, even with family (42%) just to make their daily schedules work.

Saving time by saving fuel

A huge part of the time lost is spent on having to fill up their vehicles on a regular basis. In fact, 8 out of 10 motorists (79%) wished they know a way to save less fuel. This has come to the point that, for 6 out of 10 motorists (59%), seeing the red light on their fuel gauges can actually be as stressful as taking a trip to the dentist.

Half of the motorists (51%) also agree that improving fuel efficiency simply by changing their driving behavior can help them. This makes fuel important for the majority of them (90%); in fact, 7 out of 10 drivers (75%) believe that spending more time driving and less time filling up woud greatly improve their current, time-deprived lifestyle.

Taking the Initiative

“With the rising cost of living, motorists inevitably try means and ways to make their fuel last longer and stretch their dollar. Fuel-efficient driving plays a large role in their everyday lives to help them spend less on fuel and more on what matters. That’s why Shell continues to educate motorists on being more fuel-efficient. To date, more than 800,000 motorists in Singapore have benefited from our fuel-saving initiatives,” said Aarti Nagarajan, General Manager of Retail Sales and Operations for Shell Singapore.

A part of their efforts to push better fuel efficiency, Shell Singapore will use FuelSave Fuel Efficiency log cards across Shell Stations throughout the entire island starting July 12. The cards are available to motorists who pump Shell fuels, and will allow motors to track their fuel efficiency.

Demands for Fuel Efficiency Goes Beyond Singapore

The Asia-wide results for the survey has also shown that the demand for fuel efficiency is even greater in other countries near Singapore. For example, in the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Hongkong, 86% of motorists wished they knew about better ways to save fuel, with other countries. Roughly half (53%) of motorists across the different countries also believed that knowing how to get better fuel efficiency and spend less time spent filling up would make them feel happier.
