Mclaren Launches The 720s Spider. More Sun For The Same Fun

The new McLaren 720S Spider is the brand’s latest edition to their ‘Super Series’ range of cars. Their new addition utilises the very same Monocage II-S carbon fibre core seen in the Coupe version of the 720S. Light and strong, the Spider does not need any additional strutting, and delivers the same dynamic agility offered by the Coupe. That electric Retractable Hard Top (RHT) is truly quite a piece of art. With an operating time of just 11 seconds, it is also the quickest amongst the supercars. There is an available glazed electrochromic glass version, which allows more light into the cabin, by turning transparent at the touch of a button. Operation of the roof is possible to speeds of up to 50km/h, a significant improvement over the 650S which operates at a maximum of 30hm/h.

Styling-wise, the Spider shares the very same design DNA with the Coupe; sharing the same vented headlamp and frameless twin-walled door assemblies, the latter which opens ‘Butterfly’ style. At the rear, unique glazed flying buttresses contributes to the car’s downforce, and together with a lower tail end, are giveaways that this is a “drop top”

On the inside, a luxuriously appointed interior which is well-fitted, and boasts and 8” infotainment screen for navigating through media, navigation, its dual-zone climate control and other convenience features.

With a dry weight of 1,332kg, the McLaren 720S Spider is only 49kg heavier than its Coupe sibling. The 720S Spider utilises the very same 4.0 V8 twin-turbocharged engine, doing 100km/h in only 2.9 seconds, and 200km/h in a blistering 7.9 seconds; 0.1 seconds slower in both instances, versus its Coupe sibling. Its top speed of 341km/h is identical as the Coupe, and while with the roof down, is able to operate at a maximum of a scalp-peeling 325km/h.

The McLaren 720S Spider is now available at $1,085,000, excluding COE excluding additional options. Belize Blue and Aztec Gold are two new colours available among an existing palate of 23.
