Maxus, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor, has introduced the MIFA 9 MPV to Singapore which brings, for the first time, full electrification to the luxury MPV segment.

With an MPV’s large size and corresponding weight, the high and instantaneous torque of a BEV drivetrain suits it to a tee. The MIFA 9 has a single 180 kW electric motor driving the front wheels with an output of 210 bhp and 350 Nm, which is sufficient for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.2 seconds. All MIFA 9s come with Macpherson independent suspension at the front and multi-link rears, which hints at the car’s premium positioning.

With a 90 kWh battery, the Maxus has an impressive range of 435 km, and can be recharged from 30% to 80% with a DC charger in just 30 minutes.

With a capacity for 7 passengers, the Maxus’s second row is the most luxurious, featuring fully reclinable ‘Pilot’ seats, ventilation, a footrest and a massage function. There are USB ports for all three rows and there is even a 220V power outlet for the second row, although the latter feature will come to the Singapore market only in Q4 2023. There is an even more luxurious version to come, which will feature uprated Pilot seats with more premium leather, folding tables as well as hand-rest infotainment screens.

Visually, the MIFA 9 looks futuristic and attractive from the outside despite its huge practicality. It has been specifically designed to allow entry to most multi-storey car parks, with a height of 1.84 metres - bypassing a problem typically faced by such vehicle styles. On top of a usable boot that can fit 4 suitcases even with all 3 rows used, there is even a storage compartment at the frunk.

Safety ranks high for the MIFA 9, which earned a 5-star Euro NCAP crash rating. It also comes with a whole suite of driver aids, including a 360-degree panoramic camera, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring.

At the launch, we were impressed with the interior material quality of the MIFA 9, as well as its classy design. A JBL sound system comes as standard, and there are up to 64 colours to choose from for the car’s ambient lighting. Front occupants will get access to a 12.3-inch infotainment system and the driver has a 7-inch digital cluster.

The MIFA 9 retails for $282,999 including COE and is available for viewing and test drives at 239 Alexandra Road.
