Grand Prix racing is faster than ever; Verstappen and fellow driver Daniel Ricciardo compete against the pack at speeds in excess of 300 km/h and under forces up to 6G on some corners of the most challenging circuits1. It’s comparable to being in a Space Shuttle during launch and re-entry2, or flying a fighter jet3, or going 12 rounds with a heavyweight boxer 4. The ‘Energy to Perform’ campaign projects a fiercely compelling visualisation of the tremendous forces felt on the track, by showing Max Verstappen toe-to-toe with an army of heavyweight boxers.

Mobil 1 and Esso began a new partnership with Red Bull Racing at the start of 2017, bringing more than 40 years of technology expertise to the team. With the benefit of cutting-edge Mobil 1 race lubricants and Esso Synergy race fuel, Red Bull Racing has profited from an increase in horsepower output from the RB13. The technology advances that Mobil 1 and Esso make through their partnership with Red Bull Racing help with the development of the brands’ high performing fuels and lubricants that regular road drivers can choose for their cars.

Two short documentaries tell the story of the incredible forces that Verstappen and the Red Bull Racing team experience in every Grand Prix, the extreme conditions Mobil 1 and Esso need to perform under, and their combined pursuit of the ultimate performance. The documentaries feature Team Principal, Christian Horner, and ExxonMobil Technology Motorsports Manager, David Tsurusaki, discussing how the team extract maximum performance for each race. The training Max undertakes to prepare for each race is also revealed.

Red Bull Racing driver, Max Verstappen, commented: “Facing off with 124 heavyweight boxers was a bit daunting, but also pretty cool. Daniel and I take on the pressures and strains of the races week-in and week-out through the season and this really is a powerful way to show the fans the impact of those forces. We’ve had to adapt our training regimes this year as the cars are so physically demanding to drive. Certainly our core body, neck and back muscles are put through a higher level of work throughout a race weekend, so this is something we pay close attention to through our training. F1 cars have power-assisted steering, but we still need a huge amount of strength and endurance in the upper body to ensure we can last the distance.”
